Welcome back to Part 2 of Get to Know the Women Behind In White. This week we bring you the other half of the dynamic duo, Sarina.
What is your favorite part about photographing weddings?
There are many things I love about shooting weddings but my favorite is that I get to be such a big part of such an important day for a couple. A wedding marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one. Two people offer their love and their lives to each other for the purpose of making each other better. Being able to not only photograph but witness the words exchanged between two people is what makes it all worth it. To me there is nothing more sacred than the agreement made between two people.
When did you realize that you wanted to be a photographer?
My journey into photography started as a hobby. I didn’t really think at first that I would make it a career; all I knew is that I enjoyed it and so I kept shooting. Eventually I landed myself a job with a photography studio and there I learnt the skills necessary to fine-tune my craft. Before I knew it I was too busy to do anything else. I’m so lucky the world unfolded this way for me, I couldn’t be happier in my career.
What inspires you when shooting a wedding?
Love… Simple I know and probably cheesy, but I’m a true believer in love and that it can heal us all. There is so much beauty to be found when love is in the air.
Do you have a memorable moment from a wedding that you photographed?
There are lots of memorable moments, but the one that always sticks out was at Darla & Jarod’s wedding. Jarod never gave Darla a proper engagement ring and she never cared because she was just happy to be marrying the man of her dreams. The day of their wedding Jarod surprised Darla with a four carat diamond ring. She was so blown away she almost dropped to her knees. I will never forget the look on her face or her trembling hands as he slipped it on to her finger.
What kind of gear do you use when working?
I shoot with Canon. I have 2 different bodies and a variety of lenses. I will also bring along flashes and reflectors to help with more creative lighting when needed.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I have been shooting professionally for about 4 years now. My background as a boudoir photographer really helps me when shooting weddings since I have learnt so much about posing women to showcase their best assets. Most women feel nervous on their wedding day, but never as nervous as their first boudoir shoot. If I can get a girl to relax in her underwear, I’m sure to be able to in her wedding dress. I also have the worlds best partner, Calie Schwartz. We have been shooting together since the beginning of Pink Blush Boudoir and our skills and artistic vision have developed together in a unique way. Most wedding photographers will hire a random second shooter. With Calie and I, we are a team, and our work speaks for itself.
