Bridesmaid dress shopping is a daunting task for any bride-to-be. To assume that all of your bridesmaids will look good in the same dress is a far cry from the truth, which is why we love the idea of having mismatched bridesmaid dresses. Now, that being said, every bride has to have some guidelines to keep her ladies in check. Before any shopping goes down, the bride needs to figure out some guidelines as to what she wants. It is very important to have serious guidelines or the mismatched dresses can get out of hand. You want all of your bridesmaids to be comfortable but also have a cohesive look.
Hem length is so important when choosing different dresses; if you have multiple hem lengths it’s easy to lose the unified look. Ask your girlfriends for some input but ultimately its up to the bride to decide on the dress length and stick to it.
Vary Only Two Features
Limit your bridesmaids to varying only two features of the dress and decide this beforehand. When you start switching up more than two, it can start to look messy.
Same Bouquet and Shoes
With mismatched dresses, it’s nice to have the same bouquet and shoes for all of the women. This rule can be bent a bit if you have some seriously different heights in your bridal party, but for the most part, try to keep the shoes as close as possible and bouquets the same. This will tie everything together!
Be Wary of Patterns
Patterns can work really well but this means all of the dresses need to be purchased together. For long distance bridal party members, patterns are tricky because you need to see the dresses together to decide if the patterns do mesh.
